Starting a career in care – School leavers

This week is National Apprenticeship Week and in the last 12 months the job landscape has changed drastically. If you are 25 are under you may be reconsidering your career options and plans for the future. We know that care is often overlooked as a career choice by younger people – however we know young people can make excellent carers and opportunities for career development in care are vast.

We spoke to a HR Director at Care Through the Millennium who said: We firmly believe that young people should be given the opportunity to start a career in care and envisage them as our future Managers. Starting an apprenticeship in care could help you map out your career to achieve your goals for the future.

An apprentice at Care Through The Millennium who started her career in care straight after school said: I really enjoyed completing my apprenticeship which lasted just over a year – I had a wide range of training courses including infection control and adult safeguarding. I would definitely recommend a career in care to my friends.

Remember, you don’t necessarily need experience to start a career in care, and an apprenticeship is a great way to receive all of the relevant training whilst still getting paid a salary.
