Job Description

Purpose:

To deputise for the Registered Manager in her absence.  To support other senior members of staff in all aspects of the home’s management.  To assist with the induction and training of care and domestic staff.

 Main Responsibilities:

 To ensure care staff and domestic staff carry out their duties in a competent and efficient manner.

 To have a working knowledge of the home’s Health & Safety and Environmental Health regulations.

 To have a working knowledge of the home’s policies and procedures.

 To take part in the daily “hand-over” with other staff.

 To accompany clients to appointments and attend Care Planning review meetings.

 To assist clients with personal care which includes: using the bath or shower: nail care: shampooing hair: helping a client to shave: combing or brushing hair: mouth care: denture care: helping the client to use the toilet: making and changing beds: preparing for bed: getting out of bed, washing and dressing.

 Helping the client with physical and mental activity. This could involve talking to them, reading to them, taking them on day trips, writing on their behalf, assisting with their hobbies and recreational activities.

 To be in control of the collection and distribution of laundry.

 To ensure the correct marking of clients clothes.

 To ensure a high standard of laundry of clients clothes and to report to the Registered Manager any areas of concern.

 To ensure that soiled/damaged/infectious linens or clothing are disposed of in accordance with the home’s policy.

 To report any maintenance defects and ensure the laundry room is clean and free of safety hazards.

 Be responsible for the preparation of meals in the absence of the Senior Housekeeper and to assist with serving meals and other domestic duties.

 Be on standby to respond to calls for assistance by other staff and clients, and to answer the telephone and door.

 Ensure care plans, hand-overs and any other form of written report that affects your work are read and kept up to date.

 Take part in staff meetings and training activities as required.

 To give medication and clinical care to clients as authorised and directed. ONLY IF YOU HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND ARE CONFIDENT IN PERFORMING THESE DUTIES. INFORM THE DUTY MANAGER IF YOU HAVE ANY DIFFICULTIES WITH ANY ASSIGNED DUTY OF THIS NATURE.

 To undertake training and obtain qualifications as necessary for effective job performance.

 In addition to the responsibilities listed above it may be necessary to perform other duties not listed. Consideration will be given to skills and status when requested to perform these duties.
