We are recruiting for a Caretaker/Maintenance at Handley House care home in York.

The Ideal Role…

The day-to-day duties:

As Caretaker, you will provide a comprehensive maintenance service in all areas of the Care Home, both interior and exterior. Communicating and interacting with all employees and residents ensuring that the Care Home is kept in good condition.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications required:

  • The Caretaker will carry out repairs and maintenance tasks within the individual’s capability in all areas of the home as requested by employees and the Home Manager, complying with the Care Home’s policies and procedures manual.
  • You will understand and meet statutory and legal requirements such as Food Safety, Health and Safety, COSHH, Fire Safety, to maintain a safe environment throughout the care home.
  • Specific maintenance and regular safety checks (including fire) as identified in the maintenance check list, keeping accurate, up to date records of the checks are key parts of the Caretaker role.
  • You will respect residents at all times, especially their individual right to privacy, dignity and choice, incorporating residents’ needs and requirements into your work routine so that the Care Home is pleasant to both live and work.
  • The Caretaker will liaise with the Home Manager ensuring the care home is maintained in good decorative order, the environment is comfortable, friendly and has a ‘homely’ feel for the residents.
  • You will liaise with external contractors entering the home when carrying out authorised work to ensure that all requirements relating to Health and Safety and the Health & Social Care Act legislation are fully met.
  • As Caretaker, you will maintain the grounds and garden areas, keeping them in a neat and tidy condition.
  • Be approachable and interactive with colleagues, contributing to team meetings and helping team members as appropriate. Ensure that Care Home is a friendly and supportive caring environment.
  • You will be required to be on call in the event of an emergency.
