Birchy Hill Care Home is set in the picturesque village of Sway and provides residential or nursing care for up to 65 older people. The five separate units offer a variety of spaces for residents to enjoy, including 5 lounges and dining areas, 2 large conservatories, a library and spiritual room, and a quiet visitor’s lounge. The home also has a fabulous, landscaped, accessible garden. “The home you want for yourself when looking for care”.
To keep our beautiful and friendly home running smoothly, we are looking for an experienced second chef to join us, for 27 hours per week, from early September 2021. We need caring and compassionate, hardworking team players to help us provide the type of home environment you’d want your own relatives to have.
Ideally with an interest in working in a care home setting where residents are living with dementia, you should have catering experience in a care home or school, and you will already hold a minimum Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
You need to be reliable with good time management skills and be flexible to help our home run smoothly, including covering for colleagues’ holidays from time to time. You will help to ensure a quality food service is provided, maintaining a clean and safe work environment to comply with Health and Safety and Food Hygiene regulations, manage kitchen stock control, be able to follow menus and recipes as set out by the home.
With the ability to work in all sections of the kitchen, and (with training) provide special diets when necessary, you will also be required to lead the kitchen when head chef is absent.
You will understand the importance of nutritious, varied and well-balanced meals, for our residents’ physical and mental well-being. Your excellent communication skills and your ability to work well within a team will ensure you compile suitable menus, along with input from other members of staff and the residents’ own preferences, thereby promoting choice, dignity and respect.
