Job Advert
At Mencap we deliver a range of programmes designed to support people with a learning disability and/or autism to move closer to work.
Our Employ Me Programme aims to support people with a learning disability and/or Autism to gain the skills, knowledge and experience to progress into paid employment. As a Job Coach you will work with our participants to achieve this.
We are looking for flexible Relief Job Coaches to work at Amazons fulfilment centre in Daventry. As a Job Coach you will provide support to trainees to develop the skills and knowledge required by the employer. Trainees will be working towards permanent paid work of 40 hours a week, which may include working a shift pattern of 10 hours over 4 days including early starts and late evenings. The trainees will be working over a 10-week period towards permanent paid work outcomes.
We are looking for passionate and self-motivated people to join our team as relief Job Coaches as part of our Mencap Employ Me team. In this team you will provide individually tailored support for people with learning disabilities and/or autism who are in work, helping them to integrate into the working environment, developing skills and knowledge that will lead to sustained employment.
Having a positive attitude is more important than experience for this role. Many of the people we will support will take longer to learn new skills, so a Job Coach will need to be reassuring, patient and encouraging.
Job Coach work will be via a relief bank. This means the work is as and when required. There may be some options for longer term work but is more likely to be short, ad hoc support that’s required. Unlike zero-hour contracts, there is no obligation to take work offered. It has to suit your availability too.
We are looking for Job Coaches to:
- Work in partnership with external employers
- Develop employment opportunities
- Work as part of the wider Employ Me team
- Support and train participants to ensure they gain practical and competitive skills
- Work with the managers/mentors to support participants to progress and solve any challenges
- Offer travel training to and from workplace (where identified)
Key skills and requirements (essential):
- Experience of supporting people
- Knowledge of supported employment
- Effective/accurate record keeping and reporting
- Adaptable to work in range of environments
- Professional conduct and attendance
- Have an interest in and desire to know more about learning disability and autism
If you feel that this Job Coach role is for you, please apply with a full and up to date CV that demonstrates how your skills, knowledge and experience meet the Person Specification and why you want to work for Mencap.
